             UNDIAGNOSED SEPSIS

Suspicion of Sepsis (SIRS): 2 or more of

1.     temperature
        a. >38°C or
        b. <30°C
2.     heart rate >90
3.     a. respiratory rate >20 or b. PaCO2 <32
4.     White Blood Cell Count
        a. >12,000 or
        b. <4000 or
        c. >10% immature forms

Look for signs of sepsis

1.   not examined (general practice)
2.   inadequately diagnosed (emergency)
3.   insidious in onset (intensive care)
